They were passionate: Bryan wanted to start a running group while Stephanie was looking forward to leading a bootcamp workout. Her mother-in-law, Nancy, was excited to lead a walking group.

“We wanted to come together and build a community of people – empowering all of us to better our health,” Bryan said.

It wasn’t until they headed online to find others who wanted to break a sweat that they formed a community.

To date, there are more than 700 neighborhoods using Nextdoor in the greater Kansas City area. The Vignery family used Nextdoor to reach out to their own neighborhood and their nearby neighborhoods, asking their neighbors to join them. The response was positive, with neighbors joining the family to get a bit of exercise and meet others in their community.

And they haven’t stopped at just coming together to get fit. Bryan says that for every ten pounds lost or ten pounds of muscle gained, they are providing ninety days of healthy meals to children suffering from obesity.
